Slow Start Dooms Men's Lacrosse at Elmhurst in 25-8 Non-Conference Defeat

ELMHURST, Ill.--Host Elmhurst College jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter on the way to a 25-8 non-conference men's lacrosse victory over Adrian College on Saturday.

THE BASICS
= Final Score: Elmhurst 25, Adrian 8

= Records: Elmhurst BlueJays 4-6, Adrian Bulldogs 2-4

TOP 'DAWGS
= Freshman Griffin Davison topped Adrian with four points on two goals and two assists.

= Junior Michael Turner added two goals among three points.

= Senior Cody Schmitt notched a hat-trick from his defensive position, plus he made two ground balls.

Senior goalkeeper Brett Farrelly, who finished with nine saves, led the team with five ground balls.

= Sophomore Adam Sroka rounded out the team's scoring with his second of the season.

THE OPPOSITION
= Ty Funderburk (6g, 2a) and Mac Harden (4g, 4a) both pumped in a game-high eight points.

= Matt Westhaver registered three goals and three assists.

= Starter Nick Bonastia (W, 4-6) got the win after playing 44 minutes and 6 seconds, making one save.

= Rami Ringling was dominant in the "X" by winning 21 of 29 face-offs, and tying teammate Dan Curley (1g, 1a) with a game-best eight ground balls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Elmhurst, which never trailed, led 7-1 after 15 minutes and 13-3 at the halftime break. Four of EC's first seven tallies came via man-up.

= The BlueJays were successful on all 11 clear attempts, committed a season-low 12 turnovers, scored on 7-of-8 man-up opportunities, and outshot the Bulldogs 57-15. 

= Elmhurst also won the battle with ground balls, 48-23. 

= Elmhurst led 5-0 after the first 6:55 before Schmitt put Adrian on the scoreboard with 5:34 left in the opening quarter while on the man-up.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= The teams are now tied 2-2 in the all-time series.

= Davison ranks second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with 22 goals.

= Turner lists third in the conference with 17 assists.

UP NEXT
= Adrian continues its four-game road swing next Saturday (1 p.m.) in Holland, Mich., where the Bulldogs open MIAA play at Hope College.
