ADRIAN, Mich.--Freshman Tanner Wilcox led the Adrian College men's tennis team with a pair of wins against Hope College, but the host Bulldogs couldn't hang on to the lead as the Flying Dutchmen came back for a 5-4 win in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action on Monday.

Hope improves to 6-8 overall and 3-0 in the MIAA, while the Bulldogs lost for the first time against NCAA Division III competition in April to fall to 10-6 on the season (2-1 in MIAA). Today's match-up featured a weather delay (lightning, showers) and a venue move from the Craft Tennis Complex indoors to the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center field house.

Hope led 2-1 after the doubles competition, squeezing out 9-8 and 9-7 wins at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively. Wilcox and classmate Kyle Haines picked up Adrian's point here at No. 2 in another tightly-contested match, 9-8 (3).

Adrian took its first lead of the afternoon, 3-2, after claiming the first two completed singles matches. Junior Brandon Brom defeated Danny Kroeze, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2 and Wilcox tripped up Mark VanderStoep, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3.

Senior Joey Loselle increased the Bulldogs' advantage to 4-2 after a No. 1 singles triumph over Michael Kiley, 6-4, 6-2.

The Flying Dutchmen, however, reeled off three straight wins at Nos. 5, 6 and 4 singles to rally for the team victory. Sam Kreps defeated Haines, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6 to knot it at 4-all and Christian Rhoades edged junior Jeff Sophiea at No. 4 in a hard-fought match, 6-4, 7-5.

Adrian will look to regroup quickly as it continues a three-match MIAA homestand on Tuesday (4 p.m.) versus Trine University at the Craft Tennis Complex.
