NOTRE DAME, Ind.--Host Saint Mary's College won all six singles matches to capture an 8-1 victory over Adrian College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's tennis action at the SMC Belles Courts on Saturday.
Saint Mary's College improves to 8-9 overall and remains unbeaten at 2-0 in MIAA play, while the Bulldogs drop to 6-9 on the season and 1-2 in the league.
SMC got on the board first with a No. 3 doubles win before the No. 2 tandem of junior Renae Almasy and freshman Samantha Cyrus evened the match for Adrian at 1-1.
But Monica Davy/Sam Setterblad edged junior Amber Laginess and senior Victoria Watson in a close No. 1 doubles match, 8-6, to put the Belles in front to stay--2-1 going into singles.
Maddie Minaudo, Elizabeth Preister and Davy in both No. 1 positions paced SMC with two wins apiece.
The Bulldogs return home on Wednesday to square off against MIAA opponent Alma College at the Craft Tennis Complex, starting at 4 p.m.
