Noah Nieman, Zach Rieger Pick Up Victories as Men's Wrestling Makes 2018 Home Debut

ADRIAN, Mich.--Visiting Trine used a quick start and won several close bouts to defeat Adrian College 33-10 in men's wrestling action on Tuesday at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center. More details to come later...

TOP 'DAWGS
= Senior co-captain Zach Rieger pinned Zach Saylor at 285 pounds in 4 minutes and 12 seconds.

= Freshman Noah Nieman picked up Adrian's other win on the night at 149.

THE OPPOSITION
= Davynn Schneider and Austin Farrell won by pinfall at 133 and 184 pounds, respectively. The latter had the quickest pin in 95 seconds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Trine jumped out to a 15-0 lead after a forfeit win at 125, Schneider's pin and a Caleb Maddox decision at 141.

= Nieman got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the fourth bout of the match, earning an 11-2 major decision over Jeffrey Helm.

= Adrian fell just short in four decisions--by a combined eight points.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Trine leads the modern series against the Bulldogs, 2-1, after Adrian brought back its men's wrestling program for the 2015-16 season.

= Rieger has won 12 consecutive bouts--including two Invitational victories--to improve to 18-2 on the season.

= Adrian freshman Jake Burns lost his first collegiate match after going 5-0 on five pins to capture the 197-lb. title at Nuway College Open - Mat Mayhem on Thursday. But it came in heartbreaking fashion: Anthony Neal earned a two-point reversal to tie their match 12-all in the waning seconds and was credited with an escape at the end after the referee ruled riding time as a result of three stall warnings by the Bulldogs. Neal escaped with a 13-12 win.

= Adrian will travel to Elmhurst, Ill., on Saturday for the Elmhurst University Al Hanke Invitational, starting at 9 a.m.
