CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.--Adrian College senior co-captain Zach Rieger picked up two wins to reach the semifinals of the 285-pound class at the 2018 NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships, which wrapped up Day 1 at the Knowling Fieldhouse on the campus of Wabash College. As a team, the Bulldogs stand tied for 11th in the 18-team field with 24.5 points.
The final second day is set to get under way here at 9 a.m. Saturday, lasting throughout the afternoon.
Rieger received a first-round bye before beginning his day with a pin of 5 minutes and 40 seconds over Cody Carr from the University of Mount Union. In the quarterfinals, Rieger edged Wade Ripple of host Wabash in a 5-4 thriller. Rieger will face Ohio Northern's Nathan Barcaskey in the semifinals.
In addition, freshman Noah Nieman (149 pounds) and sophomore Dylan Steward (157) are still in contention to place through the consolation bracket of their events.
Nieman beat Hayden Bates of Heidelberg University in a 3-1 decision before losing his first match of the day to Jarrad Lasko from John Carroll University in a 6:49 pinfall. Nieman remained alive with a 5-2 decision over Riley Rasler from Trine.
Steward went 2-1 on the day that included pins over Rasler's teammate Efrain Amezquita in 1:21 and Denver Aydelott of Otterbein University in just 54 seconds.
