@Dawgs_Tennis Doubles Up on Host Alma Scots in MIAA Men's Action

ALMA, Mich.--Sophomores Tanner Wilcox and Kyle Haines were double winners on Wednesday to help the Adrian College men's tennis team to a 6-3 come-from-behind victory over host Alma College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at the Superior Street Tennis Courts.

The duo won their No. 3 doubles match over Brandon Ralston and Quinn Summerfield, 8-6, to cut into the Alma lead of 2-1 going into the singles competition.

There, they led a strong presence for the Bulldogs by winning five of the last six matches to get the team victory. Wilcox defeated Noah Ackerman at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3, while Haines turned back Tristen Fox at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2.

Senior Jeff Sophiea was victorious for Adrian in a No. 2 singles three-set thriller over Luke Van Fleet, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 10-6.

Adrian sophomore Nathan Waterbury downed Brandon Ralston at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-0, and senior Jon Rhind won in a rout, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6.

BJ Schuette led Alma with No. 1 wins in singles, 7-6(3), 6-2, and doubles with Luke Van Fleet, 9-8(5).

The Bulldogs won their third-straight match to even their overall record to 7-7, improving to 4-1 both in the MIAA and on the road. More importantly, Adrian clinches a spot in the upcoming MIAA postseason tournament. The Scots, meanwhile, fall to 7-9 on the season and 1-3 in the conference.

Adrian has a quick turnaround tomorrow when it squares off against NAIA-scholarship Spring Arbor in a non-conference tilt at home at the Craft Tennis Complex, starting at 4 p.m.
