Women's Tennis Drops 9-0 MIAA Decision to Visiting St. Mary's College (Ind.)

ADRIAN, Mich.--Despite a 9-0 loss to visiting St. Mary's College on Saturday in the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center field house, the Adrian College women's tennis team displayed solid doubles play against the Belles.

Senior Renae Almasy and sophomore Samantha Cyrus lost a heartbreaker to Megan and Monica Davy at No. 1 doubles, 7-2 in the tiebreaker of a 9-8 match. At No. 2, seniors Amber Laginess and Olivia Neumann also lost in a 7-3 tiebreaker (9-8) to Lilly Chamberlin/Maddie Minaudo. Sophomores Makayla Jorgensen/Julia Maltbie were doubled up at No. 3, but battled Lily Brandt/Kelsey Kopf.

Both Davys, Kopf, Minaudo and Chamberlin all won two matches for the Belles.

Saint Mary's ups its record to 8-4 on the season and 2-0 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, while Adrian drops to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA. The teams were originally to play on Adrian's homecourt the Craft Tennis Complex, but cold temperatures (25 degree wind-chill) forced officials to move the action indoors.

Adrian hits the courts again on Wednesday at MIAA opponent Alma College, starting at 4 p.m.
