HOLLAND, Mich.--The No. 3-seeded Adrian College men's tennis team lost 5-0 to decision at No. 2 Hope College during the 2018 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Semifinals on Thursday. The Bulldogs end their season at 9-10 overall while the Flying Dutchmen--also 9-10--advance to the conference championship match at Calvin or Trine and site of the highest remaining seed on Friday.
Adrian battled in doubles competition but Hope took a 3-0 advantage. Senior Jon Rhind/freshman Ronald Ducharme fell to Mark VanderStoep/Danny Kroeze at No. 1, 8-3; senior Jeff Sophiea and sophomore Nathan Waterbury were edged by Michael Kiley/Carter Smiley at No. 2, 8-5; and second-year classmates Tanner Wilcox and Nolan Duda fought Timothy Roe/Justin Folkert at No. 3, 8-4.
In a singles match unfinished, Rhind was beating Folkert at No. 6, 6-4, 2-1.
