HOW IT HAPPENED

Adrian jumped out to a quick lead when freshman McKenna Mahoney found the back of the net from a corner kick in the third minute. Junior Caroline Fleming sent the ball in from the right corner and Mahoney used her head to guide it into the net for the 1-0 lead. Mahoney doubled the lead in the 17th minute when she received a nice low cross from the left wing from junior Brooke Teska to make it 2-0.

Five minutes later sophomore Megan Louwers took advantage of a rebound off of a Mahoney shot and put the ball past the keeper to extend the Bulldog lead to 3-0. Alma was able to answer shortly after, scoring on a well-struck free kick from 30 yards to cut the lead to 3-1 in the 24th minute. Adrian was able to get one more before half, when sophomore Raquel Church netted her second goal of the year. Sophomore Emma Gordon played a long ball forward to sophomore Mya Oleksiak who headed the ball into Church running past the defense.

The Black and Gold continued the pressure in the second half, with Fleming scoring her fourth goal of the year in the 51st minute. The Scots tried to clear the ball out of their box but only made it as far as Fleming who capitalized on Alma's mistake for the score. The scoring was rounded out in the 69th minute by Louwers netting her second of the game. She received a long pass in from Mahoney and scored from the edge of the box to make it 6-1.

QUOTABLE

"Credit to our players, no matter who stepped on the field we were decisive in the back, smart in the midfield, and clinical in the final third. Everybody has been locking in during training and they're immediately putting the lessons to use on gameday as well as any team that I've seen." – Head Coach Ali Alamdari

"We know the importance of every point in the league standings and we fully understand that we have to bring our A game to every match regardless of the opponent. We challenged the girls to come out firing and they certainly did that. We have some extremely difficult matchups around the corner so we're looking forward to continuing to rise to the challenge over the next few weeks." – Alamdari

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs head to Calvin on Tuesday, Oct. 2 for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Knights before returning to Docking Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 6 to host Kalamazoo.
