Bulldogs Put on Offensive Clinic for Home Crowd to Open MIAA Play

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team opened its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) campaign with a 6-0 win over Olivet.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Adrian 6, Olivet 0

Location: Adrian, Mich. (Kapnick Field at Docking Stadium)

Records: Adrian 7-3-2 (1-0-0 MIAA), Olivet 4-4-0 (0-1-0 MIAA)

HOW IT HAPPENED

It took just shy of four minutes for the Bulldogs to make the board and take the lead. MIAA Offensive Player of the Week, McKenna Mahoney scored AC's goal, as Megan Louwers received the ball off a corner kick, was met with a wall of Comets at the top of the box, forcing her to feed it to Mahoney, who had a clear shot to the lower right corner.

Adrian extended its lead to two on a Caroline Fleming tally at 14:01. Angela Davis dished the ball to Fleming, who was being guarded 25 yards from the goal line. Fleming pulled a slick spin move and sent a long ball into the right 90.

Still on a high from her first goal, the senior posted the Bulldogs third score of the game as well, practically beating the goalie one-on-one. Fleming's goal was helped along by Sabrina Weir who passed the ball up to her, fueling her run through the defense and onto goal.

With three minutes remaining in the opening-half, Raquel Church posted AC's fourth goal, cleaning up on a Sara Lee shot and save.

Church worked her way onto the stat sheet again early in the second, send a pass across the box the Eve Davis who made light work of the new goalie, recording Adrian's fifth goal just 1:53 into the stanza.

The Bulldogs' final goal of the day looked eerily familiar, as Lee's shot at 52:33 was stopped by a diving save on behalf of the Comets, but Church was able to come away with the ball and another goal.

Senior goalkeeper Ayverie Giller played the opening 45, making two saves. Underclassman Kristen Page relieved her of her duties, playing in the second half.
