CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.--The Adrian College men's wrestling team produced 12 placers, including 197-pound champion Donald Moses III, as the Bulldogs were fifth out of 11 schools at the Mid-States Conference Invitational with 87.5 points on Saturday at the Knowling Fieldhouse.
Moses, a junior, posted a 5-0 record on an afternoon in which he defeated four competitors from nationally-ranked and host Wabash College, including Sam Hansen by 9-3 decision in the championship bout.
Sophomore Spencer Sillman and freshman Coleton Wiegers just missed first-place recognition with runner-up finishes at 165 and 141, respectively. Sillman went 3-1 and Wiegers was 2-1.
In addition, freshmen Dajun Jones was fourth (125), Reginald Ryder was eighth (165), Trent Rector was seventh (165), sophomores Josh Miller was seventh (125), Damani Wallace was fifth (174), and juniors Brandan Kammer was sixth (141), Ethan Garcia was fourth (165), Bryant Moore was eighth (174), Michael Jacobs was fourth (197).
Wallace led the Bulldogs with three falls: Alex Searfoss of Manchester in 1 minute and 47 seconds in the consolation fourth round, Joshua Warmick with Wabash in 2:31 in the consolation fifth round and Tyler Leonhard from Manchester in 2:27 during the fifth-place match.
Jacobs had a strong finish after suffering a fall in his opening match before reeling off five consecutive victories to come all the way back to the third-place match, where he had to forfeit.
Wabash won the team title with 167 points over Olivet and Alma colleges with 111 and 108, respectively. Last season, Adrian was fourth of 12 teams on 85 points.
Adrian will be idle next weekend until hosting the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-29.
