Bulldogs Finish Up Florida Trip with Best Start Since 2015

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Adrian College softball team finished its trip to Florida with a pair of wins over John Carroll and Rose Hulman. The Bulldogs shutout John Carroll 8-0 and defeated Rose-Hulman 10-2. Adrian is off to its best start since 2015 when the team started the season with a 9-2 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs started the day stong coming away with a shutout. Mikalah Clay got Adrian on the board in the top of the third with a two-rbi double to left field to score Hailey DeChalk and Katie Connolly. The Bulldogs grabbed a pair of runs in the fourth on a single from Hope Kapelanski to make the score 4-0. Adrian struck again in the fifth on a double from Destiny Rogers to score two more run and lead 6-0. 

Adrian wasn't done as they scored two more in the sixth. Lauren McCulligh doubled to drive in a run and Clay hit a sacrafice fly to bring the score to 8-0. Natalie Mathers went the distance for Adrian on the rubber. The starting pitcher went six innings allowing no runs on three hits with five strikeouts.

Adrian brought the bats with them to game two scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. DeChalk and Infinity Rogers drove in runs to give the Bulldogs the lead. Adrian allowed a home run in the fourth the make the score 4-2, but answred back with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. 

The Bulldogs added some insurance in the sixth on a double from Megan Sodeman to bring the score to 10-2 and give Adrian another win. Loren Vail picked up her third win of the season going three innings allowing two runs on six hits with one strikeout.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs will return home and travel to Bluffton on Saturday, March 21 for a doubleheader at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
