Women's Soccer Hopes to Continue Strong Start to Conference Schedule

10/5/2021 12:00:00 PM

ADRIAN, Mich. – For the third time in four seasons, the Adrian women's soccer team is off to a perfect 2-0 start in conference play. The Bulldogs (7-5, 2-0 MIAA) will look to build on that mark as they face a new pair of conference rivals this week, starting with Saint Mary's on Wednesday.

The Belles (7-4, 0-2 MIAA) had a cold start to their conference campaign, dropping a back-to-back shutouts to Trine and Hope last week.

Despite its slow start in league-play, Saint Mary's enters the week led by one of the top scorers in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Senior, Rose Stackhouse ranks fifth in the MIAA in both goals (8) and assists (4), giving her the fourth-most points of any individual in the conference with 20.

Junior, Jillian Bowen and sophomore, Lindsey Adent have also provided an offensive spark for the Belles. While Bowen is second on the roster with four goals, Adent boasts a team-high six assists.

Adrian has maintained control of the all-time series between Saint Mary's over the last seven seasons, winning six straight after tying in 2015. Furthermore, during this stretch, the Bulldogs have heavily outscored the Belles 23-1.

The two sides will write a new chapter to their history at Docking Stadium on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

Then, on Saturday, the locals retake the road for an afternoon bout at Olivet.

The Comets (1-4, 0-2 MIAA) are still trying to find their footing after losing three weeks of their season in September. Since then, Olivet has competed in one non-conference match and most recently, consecutive losses to MIAA-foes Calvin and Trine.

Like Saint Mary's, the Comets were blanked in both of their only two conference contests.

In five matches, Olivet has received scoring contributions from five different players, including Elisabeth Perez Pablo and Kiley Schneck, who have one goal and one assist each.

The Comets have also been working with two young names in-between the posts. Freshmen, Jordan Hartman and Sarah Willard have made all five starts in goal for Olivet, recording a combined 40 saves.

This weekend's match-up will be the first between Adrian and the Comets in Olivet since September of 2018, in which the Bulldogs won 2-1. In fact, Adrian's current roster features two starters from that meeting, including McKenna Mahoney.

The senior is making the most of her fourth season with the black and gold, having scored in each of the team's last six games for a season-total of 10 goals. Not only does she sit at third in the MIAA in goals scored, but her 22 total points ranks third as well.

Two Bulldogs actively lead the conference in two different categories. Eve Davis, who has recorded a point in five-consecutive matches, boasts an MIAA-best seven assists, while goalkeeper, Taylor Fischer paces the league with 67 total saves.

As a team, the locals sport the best shot percentage in the MIAA at 0.159 behind 22 goals on 138 total shots. Four of those goals have come from Morgan Wands, while six different Bulldogs have tallied one, including Alexandria Dryps, who also has four assists on the season.

While live stats will be available for both matches, live video will only be shown for Wednesday's match versus Saint Mary's.

Also, Saturday's contest at Olivet will be played at Olivet High School.
