ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's wrestling team hosted the Adrian Duals. The Bulldogs hosted six other teams and went head-to-head with three of them. The Bulldogs took on out of region teams UW-Whitewater, UW-Oshkosh, and UW-Stevens Point.
The Bulldogs started the day with a dual against UW-Oshkosh. Adrian fell by a score of 27-16. After trailing 6-0 early,
Tanner Smith won by major decision at 133 followed by a win be decision from
Zachary Platte to lead 7-6.
Landyn VanWyk won by fall at 149 to add six to the team's score. Adrian dropped the next three bouts by a fall and two decisions.
Michael Jacobs kept the Bulldogs alive with a win by decision at 184. UW-Oshkosh sealed the win with a win by fall at 197 and a win by decision at 285.
The Bulldogs looked to bounce back against UW-Whitewater in their second dual of the day. Adrian went down 7-0, but Platte put the team on the board with another win by decision at 141. At 157,
Junior Martin came away with a pin to make the score 11-9 Whitewater. The Bulldogs struggled down the stretch, but
Dylan Wellbaum bounced back and pined his opponent in 1:21 to make the score 26-15 Whitewater which resulted in the final.
The Bulldogs wrapped up the day with a dual against UW-Stevens Point.
Colton Weimer grabbed the lead after a win by decision at 125. With Adrian trailing 9-3, VanWyke picked up an 11-8 win to put Adrian within three. The Bulldogs lost the next three bouts allowing Stevens Point to pull ahead. Jacobs won at 184 by major decision and
Dylan Wellbaum won by tech fall at 197 but it wasn't enough as UW-Stevens Point wins 26-15.
Adrian will resume competition on Saturday, November 20 as they head to Olivet College for the Olivet duals. Wrestling will begin at 10:00 AM.
