OLIVET, Mich. – The Adrian College men's wrestling team traveled to Olivet to compete in the Olivet Duals where they went up against four different schools. The Bulldogs took on Milikin University, Ohio Northern, Mount Union, and St. Clair Community College. Adrian left with a 2-2 record after a slow start and dropping the first two duals to Milikin and Ohio Northern and bouncing back against Mount Union and St. Clair Community College.
Adrian started the day against Milikin dropping the duals 34-15.
Tanner Smith recorded a win by decision at 133 by a score of 8-6 to get Adrian on the board. The other team points came from a pin from
Michael Jacobs at 184 and
Dylan Wellbaum at 197.
The Bulldogs couldn't get it going against Ohio Northern as they fell 22-9. The scoring for Adrian came from
Landyn VanWyk with a 3-0 win by decision at 149. Jacobs recorded another win at 184 with a 11-4 victory.
Donald Moses wrestled at 285 and won by a 3-2 decision.
The Bulldogs came out strong against Mount Union coming away with a 30-10 victory. After trailing 7-0, Adrian went on to win the next seven bouts.
Zachary Platte started the scoring with an overtime win at 5-3. VanWyk recorded a pin followed by another pin from
Junior Martin at 157.
Zach Altman won 5-1 at 165 and
Derick Duvall won 6-2 at 174. Jacobs recorded his third win of the day by forfeit. Wellbaum won at 197 with a 10-3 victory to lock up the Adrian win.
Adrian finished the day with a 48-0 shutout over St. Clair Community College.
Colton Weimer won at 125 by a score of 6-4. Smith won by tech fall at 17-0 followed by a win from Platte by a 6-5 decision at 141. VanWyk pinned his opponent in 41 second followed by a 15 second pin from Martin. After Altman won by forfeit at 165,
Blake Williams added to the scoring with another pin. Jacobs finished the day undefeated with a 17-3 major decision. Wellbaum ended the day with a pin and Moses won by decision in overtime.
The Bulldogs will return to action at home in a non-conference dual against Defiance College on Tuesday, November 30. Wrestling will begin in the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center at 7:00 PM.
