ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's wrestling team opened the season as they hosted the annual Adrian Invite. The Bulldogs performed well out of the 15 teams present and grabbed a second place team finish with 143.5 points. Adrian finished with 18 pins and five tech falls on the day.
The Bulldogs took home at lead one top-8 finish in eight of the ten weight classes.
Colton Weimer finished fifth for Adrian at 125, and
Justin Corcoran finished eighth. At 133,
Tanner Smith recorded a third place finish by winning the consolation bracket with a fall.
Zachary Platte tied for sixth at 141 for Adrian, and
Junior Martin finished fourth at 157.
Adrian took four out of the top-5 spots at 165.
Trenton DiGenova finished second followed by a third place finish from
Damani Wallace, a fourth place finish from
Trent Rector, and a fifth place finish from
Zach Altman. At 174,
Derrick Top grabbed the fourth place spot and
Derick Duvall finished in seventh.
Michael Jacobs finished fifth at 184 winning the fifth place match with an 8-2 decision. The Bulldogs picked up two of the top-3 spots at 197 with a second place finish by
Dylan Wellbaum.
Donald Moses went on to win the third place bout with a 3-2 decision.
The only other team from the MIAA to compete in the Adrian Invite was Albion College. The Bulldogs defeated Albion by 74 total team points on the day as the Britons finished in sixth.
The Bulldogs will get back to work at home on Saturday, November 13 as they host the Adrian Duals in the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center. Wrestling will begin at 10:00 AM.
