SANDUSKY, Ohio -- The Adrian College men's wrestling team traveled to Sandusky, Ohio to compete in the Kalahari Duals. The Bulldogs finished 3-1 on the day defeating Otterbein, Heidelberg and Mount St. Joseph while falling short to No. 5 Baldwin Wallace.
Adrian defeated Otterbein 32-11 to begin the day. Zach Phifer and
Tanner Smith won by fall to begin the dual followed by a 20-4 tech fall win from
Zachary Platte and a win by decision over Landyn Vanwyk. Derrick top added a pin followed by a win by decision from
Dylan Wellbaum and
Donald Moses.
The Bulldogs went on to defeat Heidelberg 44-12. Phifer picked up another fall along with one from Platte. At 133, Smith won 18-1 by tech fall adding five team points. VanWyk collected a pin at 149 follwed by a fall from
Trenton DiGenova and
Derrick Top. Welbaum recorded a pin at 197 and Moses finished the match with a 3-2 win by decision.
Adrian went on to face No. 5 Baldwin Wallace where the Bulldogs fell short 19-18. Smith started the scoring the Bulldogs at 133 with a decision win. Adrian was scoreless the next four bouts but finished strong. Top won by decision and
Mitchell Moore won by fall to give Adrian life. Wellbaum picked up a 7-2 decision win followed by a pin from Moses totalling 18 points to Baldwin Wallace's 19.
The Bulldogs finished the day with a 33-10 win over Mount St. Joseph. Smith tied the match 3-3 with a win by decision. After Mount St. Joseph reclaimed the lead, the Bulldogs won the next three bouts by forfeit. Moore won 8-0 to add four points for the Bulldogs followed by a tech fall from Wellbaum and Moses ended it with a 6-3 decision win.
Adrian returns to action after the holiday break with a MIAA Dual against Albion College. Wrestling will take place at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center on Tuesday, January 4 at 7:00 PM.
