ADRIAN, Mich. – After opening its 2021 campaign with four consecutive road matches, the Adrian women's soccer team is now in the midst of a seven-game stretch that includes five contests at Docking Stadium.
The first of those home matches came back on September 11 versus Mount Union, in which the Bulldogs overcame an early deficit to prevail, 2-1. In fact, all three of Adrian's wins so far this season have been decided by a goal scored in the 74
th minute or later.
Senior,
McKenna Mahoney, who is responsible for one of those goals, currently leads the team with two tallies, plus an assist.
Eve Davis,
Megan Louwers and
Morgan Wands have also scored for the black and gold, while
Kelsey Zoli rounds out the scoring with an assist.
In net,
Taylor Fischer has made 19 saves en route to a 0.760 save percentage through five matches played. The sophomore has also registered one shutout between the posts for the Bulldogs.
Adrian begins its week on Kapnick Field against Otterbein on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Cardinals, much like the locals, are working with a sizable class of newcomers, including 10 freshmen and two sophomore transfers.
However, it is senior, Delaney Earl pacing Otterbein with four goals on 16 total shots. Anjuli Anderson and Lauren Alley are the only other Cardinals to have multiple goals this season with two each.
As a team, the Cardinals (3-1), who have won three straight entering Wednesday, are outshooting opponents by an average of six shots per game.
Then, on Saturday, the Bulldogs venture to Illinois to challenge nationally-ranked Wheaton.
The Thunder (1-2-1) are coming off an appearance in the 2019 NCAA Division III Sweet Sixteen, earning them an eighth-place ranking in the United Soccer Coaches' preseason poll back in August.
Nevertheless, Wheaton has dropped back-to-back matches going into their road match against the University of Chicago on Wednesday.
Sophie Lindquist and Grace Hermanson each lead the Thunder with two goals each.
Lastly, on Sunday, the black and gold return to Adrian for a homecoming bout with Michigan-Dearborn.
The Wolverines are still relatively new to the 2021 season, having only played one match back on August 28 at Bethel (Ind.). The 2-1 win over the Piolets will be the only mark on their record when they come to town over the weekend.
Gabriella Teems and Melanie Skamiera turned in Michigan-Dearborn's lone scores on a combined six shots.
The 'Dogs and Wolverines are slated to face-off at 5 p.m.
