GLASSBORO, N.J. - McKenna Mahoney scored the go-ahead goal for the Bulldogs in the 74th minute to help Adrian claim its first victory of the 2021 season over Rutgers-Camden.
"It's very early in the season to put too much stock in a single win," said head coach
Ali Alamdari. "But I think this was an extremely important result for a young team that is learning how to play together more and more every day."
Mahoney's tally capped off a two-goal second half for the black and gold after conceding a Raptors' goal in the opening five minutes of the match.
The senior was tasked with a free kick from the top of the penalty arc, for which she delivered a captivating shot over the head of Rutgers-Camden netminder, Kayla McKeever.
From there, the Bulldogs' defense locked down on the Raptors' offense, limiting the opposition to just three shots over the final fifteen minutes.
Adrian's
Taylor Fischer was unphased between the pipes for the locals, stopping four shots on goal after the early blemish.
The highlight of the match came in the 67th minute when sophomore, Morgan Wand picked up a pass, proceeded to deke an opponent before sending in a stunning high arching shot into the top left corner from 30 yards outs, tying the match at 1-1.
"The quality chances and pressure that we brought down the stretch gave us a chance," explained Alamdari. "Morgan and Kenna hit two beautiful strikes and our back line absorbed the counterattack really well as we pressed forward seeking the game winner."
In total, Adrian produced 15 total shots, including nine on goal.
Kelsey Zoli,
Rylea Mougrabi and Mahoney contributed two shots on goal each for the 'Dogs.
The women's soccer team continues its stay in New Jersey with a Sunday afternoon bout against the host, Rowan University. The match with the Profs is scheduled for 6 p.m.
