Men's Hockey Prevails After Trailing Early Against Lake Forest

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey played its fifth game in seven days on Friday night as they hosted the Lake Forest College Foresters. The No. 1 Bulldogs trailed early, but bounced back to grab a 7-4 victory.

Lake Forest grabb the lead in the first period at 7:40 to go up 1-0, and followed it up with another goal a minute and a half later to lead 2-0. The Bulldogs didn't back down as they began the comeback on a goal from Hunter Wendt to put Adrian on the board. Two minute later, Zachary Heintz found the back of the net to tie the game 2-2 heading into the first intermission.

Our of the break, Lake Forest took the lead 22 seconds into the period with a quick goal to lead 3-2. Ty Enns responded a few minutes later to tie the game again. Dante Spagnuolo recorded another point to continue his streak resulting in a goal by Alessio Luciani to take the lead 4-3. Spagnuolo has recorded a point every game he has appeared in for Adrian since transferring at semester. Later in the period on a powerplay, Sam Ruffin picked up a goal in front of the net off assists from Jaden Shields and Luciani resulting in a 5-3 lead heading into the second intermission.

Lake Forest didn't back down as they came out scoring another quick goal to bring the deficit to one. Late in the period, Matus Spodniak added some insurance for Adrian on a power play to lead 6-4 followed by an empty net shorthanded goal by Luciani to lock up the victory.

Cameron Gray picked up his tenth win of the season on Friday night with 14 saves to remain undefeated on the year.

Adrian moves to 17-1 on the year with an 11-0 record in NCHA and will look to expand on its NCHA lead tomorrow afternoon in game two of the series against Lake Forest. Saturday's game will begin at 3:00 PM at the Arrington Ice Arena.
