ADRIAN, Mich. -- The No. 1 Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team swept the series against Lake Forest on Saturday with an 8-3 victory over the Foresters. John Kalijan and
Ty Enns each recorded a pair of goals for Adrian while
Matt Couto racked up four assists in the victory. The Bulldogs now move to 18-1 on the season and remain undefeated at 12-0 in NCHA play.
The Bulldogs offense came ready to play on Saturday netting four goals in the first period.
Rex Moe picked up the first goal on assists from
Dante Spagnuolo and Couto with only 1:10 played in the game. Twenty-three seconds later,
Trevor Coykendall found the back of the net on assists from
Connor May and Couto to grab a very quick 2-0 lead. Enns picked up his first of the game with just under seven minutes played as Couto recorded his third assist. Kalijan then found an opening and put the fourth goal of the game in to lead 4-0 at the first intermission.
Lake Forest came out and scored of the faceoff on a shorthanded, unassisted goal to make it a 4-1 game. Four minutes later, the Forester struck again to make it a 4-2 game, but
Alessio Luciani score another wraparound goal for the second night in a row to put Adrian up 5-2. Kaljian struck again in the second period on a pass from
Matus Spodniak and
Zach Goberis to bring the lead back to four. The Foresters took advantage a pass up the ice for a breakaway that trickled into the net of another shorthanded goal, but Enns answered with his second of the game to make it 7-3 heading into the second intermission.
The third period was low in scoring, but was able to stay eventful.
Hunter Wendt recorded a goal with four minutes played in the period making it an 8-3 game. Throughout the rest of the third period, 16 penalties were issues amongst the two teams including three game misconducts and a disqualification, but nothing effected the scoring as Adrian concluded the sweep with an 8-3 victory.
Head coach Adam Krug has now tied Ron Fogarty for most wins in Adrian College NCAA men's hockey history at 167 wins. The Bulldogs will travel to Concordia Wisconsin next weekend to take on the Falcons as Coach Krug looks to grad the record and record wins 168 and 169 during the two-game series. The series will begin on Friday, January 28 at 8:00 PM EST. on the road in Mequon, Wis.
