OLIVET, Mich. – The Adrian College men's wrestling traveled to Olivet College on Saturday for the annual Olivet Duals. The Bulldogs wrestled in four matches against University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Ohio Northern, Mount Union, and Muskegon Community College. Adrian struggled on the day finishing with a record of 1-3.
The Bulldogs opened the day with UW-Platteville falling in the opening round, 40-6.
Tanner Smith picked up three points for Adrian with a 14-9 win by decision at 141.
Mitchell Moore added three more point at 184 with a 3-2 win by decision.
Adrian struggled again in round two against Ohio Northern in a 29-13 loss. The Bulldogs didn't get on the board until 174 when
Derick Duvall won 6-0 to grabbed three points. After a loss at 184, the Bulldogs won the final two bouts with a major win from
Dylan Wellbaum at 197 followed by a win by fall from
Kyle Emery at 285.
Adrian went on to battle with Mount Union in round three, but dropped the match 22-17. Sam Ross won by decision at 141 frollowed by a win by decision from Zachary Platte at 149. Later in the match, Wellbaum won by forfeit to give Adrian six points and Emery won by tech fall, but it wasn't enough to defeat Mount Union.
The Bulldogs went into the final match against Muskegon Community College where they snuck by with a 28-27 victory to finish the day. Tyler Davis won by fall at 133 followed by a win by forfeit at 133. Platte won by major decision to put the Bulldogs up 16-3. After a pair of losses by pin, Duvall earned six points with a win by fall. Muskegon answered with another pin, but Wellbaum sealed the deal with a pin of his own.
The Bulldogs return to action on the road at Defiance College on November 29 at 7:00 PM where they look to shutout the Yellow Jackets for the second year in a row.
