SANDUSKY, Ohio – The Adrian College men's wrestling team traveled to Sandusky, Ohio for the Kalahari Duals. The Bulldogs took on Mount St. Joseph, Loras College, Otterbein University, and Concordia Morehead. Adrian finished the day with a 1-3 record defeating Otterbein, 26-24.
The Bulldogs began the day with Mount St. Joseph where Adrian lost 22-21 on tiebreakers.
Zachary Phifer began the day with a win by fall at 125 giving the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead. Adrian lost the next two bouts by decision tying the match at 6-6.
Zachary Platte won by an 8-4 decision at 149 followed by a win by tech fall from
Zach Altman at 165, a win by decision from
Derick Duvall at 174, and a major win from
Trevin Eggleston at 184 to give the Bulldogs a 21-12 lead. Adrian lost the next two rounds allowing MSJ to tie the match at 21-21 which eventually handed Adrian a loss in tie breakers.
The Bulldogs struggled in their next dual against Loras College where Adrian lost 54-0.
The Bulldogs bounced back in dual #3 of the day against Otterbein. Phifer and
Tyler Davis started the round with wins by fall to put Adrian up 12-0. The Bulldogs lost the next four bouts giving Otterbein an 18-12 lead, but Duvall answered with a tech fall win to score five points followed by a win by fall from
Blake Williams to add six more and take the lead. Otterbein picked up the win and led by one point after the 197 bout, but
Kyle Emery put the Bulldogs ahead with a 3-1 win by decision at heavyweight.
Adrian ended the day with Concordia Morehead out of Minnesota and were defeated 34-15. Phifer picked up six points on a win by forfeit at 125 before the Bulldogs went silent. Duvall picked up another tech fall win at 174 to give the Bulldogs some life, but Adrian lost the next two bouts.
Blake Daniels wrested at 285 to end the day where he won 13-3 by major decision.
Adrian moves to 7-7 on the season in dual matches as they head into conference play after the winter break. Adrian will resume action on Tuesday, January 3 at home against Albion College for the first MIAA dual of the year. The dual versus Albion is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
