ADA, Ohio. – The Adrian College men's wrestling team placed fourth in this weekend's Ohio Northern Invite after scoring 91 team points.
Graduate student Zach Altman placed 2nd in the 165 class after scoring 19.0 team points this afternoon. Altman won by tech fall over Colton Blosser (Ohio Northern University) (TF 16-0) in the first round and recorded a decision win over Sam Wegesin (Otterbein) (Dec 9-2) in the second round. Altman would go on to win by tech fall over Jonathan Davis (Olivet College) (TF 18-3) in the quarter-finals and won the tie-breaker over Jordan Hardrick (Ohio Northern University)in the semifinal (TB-1 3-2).
Senior Dylan Wellbaum won by major decision over Ben DePrest (Ohio Northern University) (Maj 15-4) to place third in the 197 class today. During his semifinal match, Wellbaum lost by decision to Tyler Thurston of the University of Dubuque. Wellbaum responded by winning two matches in a row to take third place this afternoon. During the semifinal constellation round, Wellbaum won by tech fall over Kody Krupp (Olivet College) (TF 17-0) and would eventually win his third-place match.
In the 125 class, sophomore Colton Weimer placed 4th with 16.5 team points. During the fifth-round consolation matchup against Leonard Cocca (Lycoming College), Weimer won by decision 9-3 over Cocca. During the consolation semifinal, Weimer won by decision over Isaiah Mullins (Olivet College) (Dec 6-5) inserting Weimer into the consolation match. In his third place match, Weimer lost to Tanner Higa (University of Dubuque) by decision.
Sophomore Tyler Davis of the 133 class placed 5th after scoring 16.0 team points during the afternoon. In his semifinal match against Dylan Le of Ohio Northern University, Le won by decision over Davis (Dec 9-5). Later in the consolation semifinal, Camden Spears (Ohio Northern University) won by fall over Tyler Davis (Adrian College) (Fall 1:30). Davis would respond in his 5th place match, defeating Emilo Cabrera (Olivet College) by fall over (Fall 2:06).
