STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team made the trip to State College, Pennsylvania over the weekend and swept Penn State University by scores of 9-2 and 8-2.
The Bulldogs opened up their weekend in a late night match-up on Friday night, where they out-shot Penn State, 64-15. Defenseman
Allison Shaw and forwards
Macy Piche and
Gabby Jex each netted two goals and an assist in the contest. Sophomore forward Rhea Petersen finished with a goal and two assists, while senior defenseman
Kirsten Horney collected three assists. Forwards
Tyla Turnbull and Hailey Witshire also found the back of the net to round out the offensive attack. Goaltender
Chloe Burt made 13 saves in the 9-2 win.
After a strong performance in game one, the Bulldogs followed up with another dominant performance in game two, outshooting Penn State by a large margin again, this time by a count of 111-12. Rhea Petersen potted two goals in the contest, while
Hailey Wiltshire also potted two, along with an assist. Sophomore forward
Tess McKerrow found the back of the net and provided two helpers. Defenseman
Allison Shaw also found the score sheet with two assists of her own. Forwards
Ashlynn Stitt,
Macy Piche and
Bria Fewchuk all had goals as well. Sophomore goaltender
Jordan Hunt made 10 saves in her first win of the season.
The No. 2 ranked WD1 Bulldogs will close out their fall semester this week when they face off in a home and home series against Michigan State University. Adrian will host MSU on Thursday night at the Arrington Ice Arena for a 7:30 PM puck drop, and then travel to East Lansing for a 8:00 PM puck drop on Friday night.
