Men's Hockey Advances to NCHA Harris Cup Semifinal after Sweep over Lake Forest

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The winning streak moved to 26 games for the No. 1 Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team on Saturday afternoon after defeating Lake Forest 3-1. With the win, the Bulldogs advanced to the NCHA Harris Cup semifinal game where the team will host again. Sam Ruffin led the team on offense with a pair of goals, and Cameron Gray recorded 20 saves to lead the squad on defense.

Adrian jumped out to a 1-0 lead halfway through the first period on a power play goal from Ruffin. Alessio Luciani and Ty Enns picked up assists on the play giving Luciani his team-high 40th point of the season. Later in the period, the Bulldogs found themselves on a 2-on-1 and scored again. Matus Spodniak picked up the goal on a pass from Zach Goberis and Jaden Shields.

After a scoreless second period, the Bulldogs went into the third with a 2-0 lead. At 14:16 in the third period, Lake Forest scored an unassisted goal to give them life. Lake Forest was later forced to pull its goalie, and Adrian found another opportunity. After poking the puck ahead, Luciani and Ruffin went 2-on-1 to the net and Ruffin scored the insurance empty net goal to make it 3-1 with 20 seconds to play resulting in the win.

After the rest of the NCHA Harris Cup games play tonight, the conference will reseed setting Adrian up with the lowest remaining seed to play in the semifinal game. The Bulldogs will host the semifinals on Saturday, February 26 at 7:05 PM at the Arrington Ice Arena.
