2/22/2022 12:00:00 PM

ADRIAN, Mich. - On Wednesday evening, the Adrian women's basketball team will make its sixth Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament appearance, and second in as many years. The Bulldogs (8-16, 5-11 MIAA), who enter the postseason as the sixth-seed, are set to venture to Grand Rapids to challenge third-seeded Calvin University.

The Knights (18-7, 11-5) got the better of the 'Dogs during the regular-season, defeating the black and gold 62-37 on January 15, and 73-40 on January 26.

Gabby Timmer was the primary catalyst in both contests, averaging 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, while also adding seven total blocks and two steals.

On the season, the senior is posting a conference-high 19.1 points and 10.3 boards per outing, and also paces the league with a 0.553 field goal percentage. She is aided in scoring by her teammate Leah Harris, who is averaging just shy of ten points a night (9.9). Against Adrian, Harris managed 13 total points and eight total assists while playing a team-leading 25.7 minutes per game.

As for the Bulldogs, Chelsea Palmer continues to be the offensive facilitator, actively ranking second in the MIAA in rebounding (8.1), and third in scoring (14.2). She averaged 13.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in the two games against the Knights, and also picked up three steals.

Jordan Phillips enters the postseason with the conference's second-best three-point field percentage (0.411). She currently ranks fourth on the team with a 5.2 scoring average, and has hit multiple three-pointers in four of the last seven games for Adrian.

Overall, in their two earlier-season match-ups, the Knights outshot the Bulldogs 40.3 percent to 28.7 percent from the floor, while also holding a 13.5 rebounding margin.

Wednesday will be Adrian and Calvins' second all-time meeting in the MIAA postseason. They previously met in 2008's quarterfinals, in which the 'Dogs upset the Knights in Grand Rapids, 59-58.

Elsewhere in this season's tournament, Trine locked up the No. 1 seed and will host Kalamazoo. Hope College is matched-up against Saint Mary's, and fourth-seeded Albion is slated to take on Alma.

An Adrian victory this week would send them into the semifinal round against the Hope/Saint Mary's winner. Should the Belles emerge from that scrum, the Bulldogs would then host that bout on Friday.

Live stats and video will be available for the quarterfinal game. Tickets can be purchased through miaa.org.
