Men's Wrestling Eyes Set on a MIAA Championship with MIAA Duals on Sunday

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's wrestling team is set to compete at the MIAA Duals on Sunday hosted by Trine University. Due to COVID-19, the MIAA decided to cancel reschedule the remaining conference duals, and make a one day tournament. The Bulldogs will wrestle Alma College, Olivet College, and Trine University on Sunday. Adrian already defeated Albion College earlier this year before the reschedule by a score of 42-6.

The Bulldogs come into the MIAA Duals with a 9-8 record on the year to go along with a third place and second place finish in a pair of opens during the season. The Bulldogs faced some tough competition with every dual loss coming to a ranked opponent. Adrian is coming off of the MIAA Individual Championships where they finished with two champions in Landum VanWyk at 149 and Dylan Wellbaum at 197. The Bulldogs finished with three second place finishes, two third place finishes, and four fouth place finishes.

In the most recent poll from the NWCA, Olivet College is the only team ranked in the Dual Top-25 Rankings coming in at No. 21. In the last Tournament Rankings that came out, the Bulldogs were slotted 27th in the Top-30.

In the fourth NWCA Regional Individual Ranks, the Bulldogs made some appearances. Tanner Smith was ranked fifth at 133 in the Central Region, Zach Altman was ranked sixth at 165, Michael Jacobs was ranked sixth at 184, Wellbaum was ranked third at 197, and Isaiah Espinoza was ranked fourth at 285.

Olivet comes into the tournament as the reigning MIAA Champion after last year's one day event. The Bulldogs came in second with a 2-1 record after topping Trine 31-13 and Alma 26-18.

The first round of the MIAA Duals will begin at 10:00 AM on Sunday, February 6 at the Keith E.Busse/Steel Dynamics Incs. Athletic and Recreation Center at Trine University with rounds last about an hour and 30 minutes with a ten minute break in between. Adrian will start the day against Trine followed by matches against Olivet and Alma. Masks are encouraged but not required according to the Trine University COVID-19 protocols, and tickets will be sold at the gate for $7 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for MIAA students or anyone under 18.
