CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - At Republic Bank Field, the Adrian women's lacrosse extended its winning-streak to three games, defeating the homestanding Saints of Thomas More University, 13-9.
Olive Stevens put forth another solid effort offensively, leading all scorers with eight points on six goals and two assists. Fellow senior
Carlee Casteel notched five points on the evening, her third such showing of the season, while
Joscelyn Potter and
Brooke Barabas contributed two goals each to round out the Bulldogs' scoring.
With the win, Adrian improves to 4-3 overall, which is already one win more than the entire 2021 campaign.
For the second game in-a-row, the home team opened up a quick 2-0 advantage, only to be swiftly countered by the visitors with goals from Casteel, Stevens and Potter, and all of that in just the first five minutes of the contest.
Leading 3-2, Adrian continued to put the pressure on the Saints' netminder, striking for five more to the back of the net before the end of the first quarter. Stevens was responsible for three of those tallies. The 'Dogs also garnered a man-up mark off the stick of Casteel.
Thomas More began to slowly chip away at their deficit in the second frame, scoring three-straight in the early stages to pull within three, down 8-5. But a later goal by Barabas built Adrian's lead up to four by the halftime break.
The black and gold got a strong start to the third quarter off of marks from Stevens and Barabas. From there, the Bulldogs needed to fend off a furious Saints' rally, as they drew as close as 11-9 before the eventual victors put the game away with a set of unanswered goals over the closing minutes.
In all, Adrian finished with a 27-23 edge in total shots, and a 28-24 advantage in ground balls.
In goal,
Jordan Hunt made her first-career start for the Bulldogs, recording the win with eight saves on 17 shots faced.
Next up, the women's lacrosse team wraps-up a three-game road trip at the College of Wooster on March 31
