ADRIAN, Mich. - At the Craft Tennis Complex, despite frigid temperatures and windy conditions, the Adrian men's tennis team stayed hot on Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Britons of Albion College, 5-4.
The Bulldogs have now won three matches in-a-row for only the second time in the last four seasons, including back-to-back conference dual wins for the first time since 2019.
The deciding moment for the black and gold (7-5, 2-0 MIAA) came in the doubles portion of the competition, as Adrian picked up two of the three possible points before going on to split even with their opposition in singles.
Whitman Hopper and
Sebastian Smith won their third consecutive bout as a pair, taking down Patrick Smoker and Danny McGarry 8-6. Also in doubles,
Zachary Perry and
Sebastian Cowan kicked started a win-streak of their own with 8-3 decision over Michael Polizzi and Cecil Burkhart.
Then, in single competition,
Ryan Cuddy improved his individual winning-stretch to three matches after knocking off Drake Malcolm in straight-sets; 6-3, 6-4. Elsewhere,
Brandon Falk and Smith also secured a point each for the Bulldogs with two-set sweeps.
The effort in singles was enough for Adrian to hold off Albion down the stretch, moving the 'Dogs into first-place outright in the conference standings.
The men are set to continue their schedule on Saturday in Indiana against Trine, while the women will resume action on Wednesday afternoon against the Britons at home.
