Softball Hoping to Avoid the Weather this Week with Three Opponents Set

ADRIAN, Mich. - After losing its weekend slate due to inclement weather, the Adrian softball team is due back on the field this week to resume its schedule against a trio of opponents.

First on the docket is a crosstown showdown with Siena Heights University on Wednesday.

The Saints (10-5) are coming off of two five-inning victories over Carlow University on Friday, in which they outscored the Celtics 19-3. Freshman Courtnee Chappetta finished 4-for-6 from the plate, including one of two triples by the Siena Heights' offense. She additionally chipped in an RBI, while also collecting three stolen bases.

Through 15 games, Chappetta actively ranks third in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with a 0.479 batting average, and is the only Saint with multiple home runs.

In the circle, Jordan Green (5-2) sports a team-best 2.09 earned-run average, accompanied by 46 total strikeouts in 10 appearances.

Then, on Thursday, the Bulldogs venture to Ohio to make-up their doubleheader with Defiance College.

The Yellow Jackets (4-6) last competed at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida, posting an 18-0 win over Wisconsin-Platteville to round out their stay down south.

Sophomore Brooke Silcox and junior Josilyn Guzman are a force to be reckoned with offensively for the 'Jackets, both holding plus-0.500 batting averages and on-base percentages, and plus-0.800 slugging percentages. Combined, the duo has 34 hits, 16 RBIs, eight doubles and four home runs.

As for pitching, Taylor Biggs (3-2) has worked through four complete games, totaling 33.2 innings and a team-high 27 strikeouts. The senior is holding opposing batters to a 0.252 average from the plate, and is also 6-of-7 (0.857) on fielding chances.

Adrian closes the week with its conference-opener against Albion College.

The Brits (5-9) are currently sliding on a four-game losing-streak, dating back to their time in Florida.

Junior pitcher Ashley Pion (4-4) has already secured one weekly honor from the MIAA, and she actively ranks third in the conference with a 1.31 earned-run average.

In the batter's box, sophomore Jacqueline Jozefczyk leads the Brits with 18 hits, eight RBIs, two triples, and a 0.391 batting average. She has recorded a hit in each of her last five outings, including three against Rochester Institute on March 11.

As a team, Albion sits fourth in the league with an overall batting average of 0.269, which is just narrowly ahead of Adrian's 0.266.

The 'Dogs feature the trio of Ava Ferrarelli (0.364), Hailey DeChalk (0.333) and Maggie Leveille (0.286), who have each surpassed double-figures in hits while combining for 19 RBIs.

Lauren McCulligh leads the black and gold with two home runs, and Katie Connolly paces the line-up with four doubles and a triple.

On the rubber, Macee Schang has been strong as a relief pitcher for Adrian. The freshman has appeared in nine contests and is tied for the team-lead in total strikeouts with 26. She is also limiting opponents to a rotation-best 0.250 batting average.

Saturday's match-up with Albion will also be the Bulldog softball team's annual "Senior Day!"
