Women's Soccer Ties with Earlham in Battle to Open Season

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Ninety minutes of action took place at Docking Stadium on Thursday night as the Adrian College women's soccer team opened the season with a 0-0 tie against Earlham College. Due to the change in NCAA soccer rules, no overtime was played due to the match being a regular season contest.

The Bulldogs out-shot the Quakers on Thursday night 25-3 while landing nine shots on goal. Thirteen of Adrian's shots came in the first half with multiple opportunities to score coming up short. Adrian landed three shots on goal in the second half on a header off a corner kick to go along with a breakaway shot that went wide.

Taylor Fischer started the day in goal and faced only two shots which both came in the second half. Multiple opportunities were available for Mckenna Mahoney who recorded four shots on the night, and Kaitlyn Dake who racked up five. Coming off the bench, freshman Annamarie Fosmoen recorded five shots on the day.

"We generated a high number of quality chances, but need to be much more intentional with selecting the right shots to take, and then finishing our best opportunities," said head coach Ali Alamdari. "That said, there were some excellent moments throughout the match and our defensive unit did a great job ensuring that we could keep the pressure on Earlham all game long without a costly counterattack."

The Bulldogs are tasked with a quick turnaround and a long trip to southern Tennessee to take on Maryville College and Sewanee over the weekend. Saturday's match against Maryville is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
