SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Adrian College women's soccer team opened its two-match weekend on Saturday in Tennessee against Maryville College. The Bulldogs battled tough but dropped the opening contest 1-0 on a second half goal.
Adrian fought hard in the first half totaling seven shots and landing four on goal. The Bulldogs also showed opportunities on three first half corner kicks, but was unable to find the back of the net.
In the second half, Adrian kept shooting as they picked up six shots, but only landed one on net which resulted in a Maryville save. In the 70th minute, Maryville broke the silence and struck for the only goal of the night to lead 1-0 and hold on to win.
"Maryville is a strong DIII program with an NCAA Tournament pedigree," said head coach
Ali Alamdari. "We had them on their heels for most of the match. We're putting together some high quality play and generating enough pressure and chance to get the result, but we ultimately have to be more committed to putting that last piece of the puzzle together."
Makenna Mahoney collected four shots on the night with one on goal followed by two shots from
Josie Huber with both on goal. The Adrian defense held its own only allowing three shots on goal from Maryville resulting in two saves for goaltender
Taylor Fischer.
The Bulldogs look to turn things around as they wrap up their trip tomorrow against Sewanee. Tomorrow's match is scheduled for 1:30 PM EST.
