Duvall and Norman Lead Men's Wrestling at Pete Wilson Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. – The Adrian College men's wrestling team traveled to Wheaton College over the weekend to compete in the annual Pete Wilson Invitational. The 2023 Pete Wilson Invitational consisted of 31 teams from around the country. The Bulldogs totaled 29.5 team points to place 21st.
 
Tyler Davis finished the tournament 1-2 at 133. He won his opening bout by decision by a score of 9-4 before falling to the consolation bracket after a loss by fall. Davis' two losses came to a wrestler with a 17-1 record and a 21-8 record on the season. Blaise Kokkales picked up a win at 149 in the first round of the consolation bracket by major decision 12-3. At 157, Reginald Ryder added a win by medical forfeit.
 
Derick Duvall highlighted the Bulldogs with a 2-2 finish to place sixth for the tournament at 174. After receiving a first round bye, Duvall won by major decision by a 14-4 score. He then went on to win 3-1 in sudden victory in the quarterfinal. Unfortunately, Duvall was a medical forfeit in the semifinals and the consolation semi and finished sixth.
 
Kairos Norman recorded three wins on the weekend. After losing his opening bout by fall, Norman won his next two bouts by fall and the next by tech fall. His opening win was a fall in 30 seconds. In the fourth round of the consolation bracket, Norman's weekend came to an end after losing by fall.
 
At 197, Jackson Beck-Calvert finished 2-2 on the weekend. After losing his opening round, Beck-Calvert picked up a pair of wins by fall before losing in the third round of the consolation bracket. At 285, Blake Daniels picked up a win by fall in the second round of the consolation bracket to finish 1-2 on the weekend.
 
The Bulldogs will resume action on Wednesday, February 1 on the road against Trine University at 7:00 PM. With a win over the Thunder, Adrian will lock up the MIAA Championship for the first time since 1971.
