ADRIAN, MICH. – The Adrian College men's wrestling team hosted their annual Adrian Duels on Sunday afternoon, securing a victory over Cleary University but falling to UW-Eau Claire, Seton Hill, and Ohio Northern in a hard-fought series of matchups.
The Bulldogs faced off against UW-Eau Claire in their opening duel. The Blugolds started strong, taking the first four matches before Adrian got on the board with a dominant tech fall by junior Aiden Smith at 157 pounds. Senior Blake Williams, ranked #11, delivered the highlight of the duel by defeating #1-ranked Niall Schoenfelder at 184 pounds. Despite these standout performances, UW-Eau Claire claimed the remaining matches and took the duel 38-8.
Adrian bounced back in style in their second duel against Cleary University. Sophomore Max Mader got things rolling with a forfeit win at 125 pounds. Senior Tyler Davis followed up with a tech fall at 133 pounds, and senior Mack Baird continued the streak with another tech fall at 141 pounds. Aiden Smith maintained his momentum with a first-period pin, while junior Spencer Vos (174 pounds) and senior Trenton DiGenova (184 pounds) secured wins by decision. The Bulldogs cruised to a decisive 28-18 victory.
In their third duel of the day against Seton Hill University, the Bulldogs came up just short in a nail-biter, falling 23-21. Mack Baird delivered an exciting sudden victory win, 4-1, in the 141-pound class. Aiden Smith added his second pin of the day, showcasing his dominance, and senior Blake Williams followed suit with a first-period pin.
The final duel saw Adrian up against Ohio Northern University, where the Bulldogs struggled, falling 43-3. Aiden Smith was once again a standout, securing the lone victory for Adrian with a hard-fought 4-1 decision at 157 pounds.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday, November 23 where they will head to Baldwin Wallace for the BW Invite.
