UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH.- The Adrian College Track and Field team kicked off their season with an impressive showing in the north, highlighted by a record-breaking performance from freshman Jackson Hayward. In his first collegiate meet, Hayward dominated the 400-meter race, setting a new school record with a blazing time of 48.86 seconds,a two-second improvement over the previous mark set in 2011.
Not to be outdone, fellow freshman Alysia Townsend delivered standout performances of her own. She finished sixth in the 400m with a time of 1:01.92, which now ranks fifth all-time in Adrian College history. Townsend also proved her versatility, taking second in the women's high jump with a personal-best leap of 1.67 meters (5-5.75 feet).
Freshman Piper Pierce made a strong debut in the long jump, finishing 19th with a leap of 4.67 meters (15-4.00 feet).
Sophomore KJ Scott competed in the men's weight throw, where he posted a mark of 13.53 meters (44-4.75 feet), finishing 26th. Meanwhile, senior Cameron Overmyer showed his experience in the pole vault, securing third place with a clearance of 4.38 meters (14-4.50 feet).
The women's 4x400m relay team capped off the meet with a solid 14th-place finish, crossing the line in 4:37.04.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, January 18th where they will head to Trine University to compete in the Sean Brady Alumni Invitational.
