CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - The Adrian College men's wrestling team made history at the NCAA Regional on Saturday, achieving an historic milestone with two Bulldogs being crowned regional champions for the first time in program history.
Senior Adrian Rosas, competing in the 125-pound division, began his tournament with a dominant performance, securing two impressive wins by tech fall and a hard-fought 3-2 decision. Although Rosas fell in the semifinals, he fought back in the consolation bracket, ultimately competing in the third-place match, but came up just short by decision.
Senior Tyler Davis, wrestling in the 133-pound class, and senior Sampson Ross, in the 149-pound division, each faced tough competition and unfortunately ended their tournaments with 0-2 records.
In the 157-pound division, junior Aiden Smith delivered a flawless performance, going 4-0. Smith notched two victories by tech fall, one by pin, and another by major decision, making history as the second wrestler in program history to claim the regional championship.
Senior Zachary Platte, competing in the 165-pound division, started strong with two wins but struggled in his next three matches, finishing the tournament with a 2-3 record.
Junior Spencer Vos, in the 174-pound division, faced a tough start with a major decision loss, but showed resilience by winning his next two bouts by decision and pinfall. Vos would take eight place in the tournament, finishing 2-3.
In the 184-pound division, senior Blake Williams had an exceptional tournament, going 4-0 and capturing the regional title with two major decision victories, one pinfall, and one decision. Williams made history as the third Bulldog to become a regional champion.
Sophomore Daxton Looney, competing in the 197-pound division, had a mixed tournament, falling short in his opening match, but bouncing back with a strong pinfall victory before ultimately finishing with a 1-2 record.
Rounding out the Bulldogs' efforts in the 285-pound division, senior Blake Daniels faced an uphill battle, suffering a loss in his first bout. However, Daniels showed determination, securing a win by pinfall in his second match before falling in the third and finishing with a 1-2 record.
Adrian College finished in an impressive sixth place at the NCAA Regional, earning 84 team points
Aiden Smith and Blake Williams advance to the NCAA National Championship, which will be held in Providence, Rhode Island.
