Bulldogs still top dogs in MCHA with shutout over MSOE

Dec. 8, 2007

Stats

ADRIAN, Mich. - Eric Miller's goal just over a minute into the game was enough for Brad Fogal and the Bulldogs on Saturday against the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders in a match-up of two of the MCHA's top teams.

Miller redirected an Adam Krug slap shot from inside the blue line to give the Bulldogs the early 1-0 advantage. In the second period, Shawn Skelly proved yet again why he is among the nation's leading scorers when he added his eleventh goal of the season on a power play opportunity for the Bulldogs.

The third period saw the Bulldogs put the game out of reach on Mike Fiorillo's first goal of the year and Chris Stansik's fifth goal of the season at opposite ends of the frame to lift Adrian to the 4-0 victory.

In a game that featured 23 penalties, Brad Fogal and his teammates proved why they are one of the best squads at special teams in the country by shutting down the Raider power play offense. Fogal picked up the shut-out in goal, the first in program history, by stopping all 23 shots on goal by MSOE in the game.

With the win, the Bulldogs ensure themselves of at least a tie for the lead in the MCHA. Marian College, who was 6-1 in league play headed into tonight's match-up with Concordia (Wis.), was tied with the Bulldogs for the best mark in the MCHA at the start of the day.

The weekend sweep of MSOE is the first time that the Raiders have been swept in an MCHA series since Marian College beat the Raiders by scores of 5-1 and 2-1 on February 7 & 8, 2004.

The Bulldogs will take a break from the ice for the remainder of 2007. The next opponent for the Adrian College varsity men's hockey team is SUNY-Geneseo. The Bulldogs will host the Knights for a one night event on January 4, 2008 at the Arrington Ice Arena with a scheduled start time of 7:00 p.m.
