'Dogs Throttle Minnesota-Crookston, 9-1

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The Adrian College men's hockey team continues to impress in their first season and have now won seven in a row after a 9-1 thrashing of Minnesota-Crookston at the Crookston Civic Arena on Friday night in front of 387 disappointed fans. Eric Miller tied a team-high with five points and set his own season-high with three goals and two assists. It was Miller's first hat trick of the season and he has now scored a goal in six straight games. Miller also ranks second on the team with 38 points. He scored one goal in the first and two more in the third and now stands at 20 goals to lead the team.

Miller scored at 4:40 in the opening period with an assist from Quinn Waller and Adam Krug on the power play. Krug also had a great night scoring the next two goals to give Adrian a 3-0 lead at 15:13 of the first. Krug ended the game with two goals and two assists. He now has 36 points on the year.

Adrian scored twice more in the second frame before Crookston sneaked a goal past goaltender Brad Fogal at 17:59 at even strength. Fogal made 22 saves including eight in the second period. Sam Kuzyk and Brad Houston each scored in the second period at 4:00 and 13:21 respectively as Adrian led 5-1 after two periods.

The Bulldogs scored four more times in the final period as they peppered Crookston goaltender Justin Klinkhammer with 18 shots on goal. Miller's second goal of the game at 2:42 came on the man advantage with assists from Shawn Skelly and Waller. Skelly made it 7-1 at 5:29 at even strength unassisted. Miller notched his hat trick on another power play at 12:59 with assists from Krug and Skelly. Kuzyk recorded his first multi-goal game of the season and scored for the first time in six contests. His tally at 13:57 made the final score 9-1.

Adrian outshot Crookston, 45-23, and the Bulldogs were an outstanding 5-of-10 on the power play. UMC went 0-of-6 with the advantage. These two teams square off on Saturday to conclude their weekend series. Adrian is now 13-3 overall and 10-1 in the MCHA.
