It was a happy bunch of women's basketball players on Saturday afternoon in an 86-54 win over Kalamazoo College closing out the regular season with an impressive victory over the Hornets. Seniors Nichole Roose and Rita Carter went out winners in their final home game with Roose scoring 12 points and dishing out a team-high six assists. Carter played 18 minutes and scored two points to go with two rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Four Bulldogs were in double figures led by Anita Stamps with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor and 5-of-6 shooting from the foul line. Stamps also had four rebounds and three steals in 18 minutes off the bench. Freshman Megan Bouwens was 5-of-9 shooting and finished with 10 points and five rebounds in 23 minutes. Sophomore Kim Olech racked up another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in 20 minutes. She was 5-of-9 from the field and 3-of-3 at the stripe.
JaLisha Belle and Alex Culbert also provided quality minutes off the bench. Belle led Adrian with 11 rebounds and added six points while Culbert scored seven points and added six boards in just 12 minutes. Adrian shot 43.7 percent (31-of-71) and scored 20 fast-break points. Kalamazoo shot 35.7 percent (20-of-56) and committed 30 turnovers.
The Bulldogs conclude the regular season with a 9-15 overall record and 7-9 record in the MIAA. Adrian finished sixth in the standings and will travel to third-seeded Calvin College on Tuesday, February 26 for the MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals. The tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from the Calvin Fieldhouse. The two teams split their regular season matchups with each team winning on their home floor.
