'Dogs Win Sixth and Seventh in a Row at Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Bulldog baseball team had to rally in game two on Tuesday trailing 4-1 after four innings but earned a series sweep of Hope by scoring two runs in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh for a 5-4 win. The Bulldogs also took a 5-2 win in game one behind the arm of Alex Webster.

Bobby Rickstad got the start in game two and was chased after four innings. He allowed seven hits and three earned runs getting a no-decision. Ryan Domschott did a great job in relief going 2.2 innings and earning his first win of the season (1-1). Domschott allowed just one hit while walking two and striking out one. Nick Vandike got the final out of the game to earn his second save.

Nate Sarkissian made a start in right field and delivered the game-winning single in the top of the seventh. Alexander Younce reached on an error to lead off the inning and was substituted for Adam Stone as a runner. Steve Vanderheyden sacrificed Stone to second with one out. After a Chad Meyer fly out to center, Sarkissian singled home Stone with the game-winner.

Sarkissian went 1-for-2 with two RBI to lead Adrian. Eight different players collected one hit for AC in game two. Hope left 10 runners on base in the nightcap.

Alex Webster improved to 4-0 with a complete-game effort in game one. Webster allowed seven hits and two earned runs coming into the game with the best ERA in MIAA contests. Webster had pinpoint control once again with no walks while striking out four Flying Dutchmen. Shawn Grose (0-5) threw 4.2 innings and allowed seven hits and five earned runs for Hope. With the game knotted at 2-2 after four innings, Adrian scored three times in the top of the fifth to take control. Younce had the game-winning hit with a two-out, two-RBI double scoring Brian Bilius and Rickstad. Vanderheyden followed with a run-scoring double to give Adrian a three-run cushion.

Rickstad had three hits of Adrian's 10 hits with a run and RBI. Kris Powell went 2-for-3 with a run. Alex Cowart batted 2-for-4 in game one. AC is now 18-5 overall and pulled into a tie for first in the MIAA with a 10-2 record. Adrian travels to Calvin for a first-place showdown tomorrow with a doubleheader which starts at 2:00 p.m.
