Adrian Falls Out of First Losing Twice at Albion

ALBION, Mich. - The Bulldog baseball team has put together clutch hitting and pitching on their way to 21 victories this season. The formula did not work on Friday afternoon at Albion College however as the Bulldogs lost a pair to the Britons by the scores of 9-8 and 5-3. In the process, Adrian is now back into second place in the MIAA with a conference mark of 13-5. Calvin leapfrogged Adrian with a 13-4 record.

Albion scored a run in the bottom of the seventh in game one with two outs as Bobby Clouse singled through the right side of the infield which scored pinch runner Logan Schendel from second. Nick Vandike entered the game after a leadoff walk and could not keep Albion off the board. Ryan Domschott (0-1) took the loss in relief of Nick Sarkissian. He threw 2.2 innings and allowed five hits and four earned runs with four strikeouts. Sarkissian went 3.1 innings and allowed seven hits and four earned runs with a walk.

Todd Meyers batted 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI in the leadoff spot. He collected his fourth double of the season and also was hit by a pitch. Bobby Rickstad also batted 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. He also stole his seventh base of the year. Steve Vanderheyden collected two hits in four at-bats with his fourth homer and fifth double while scoring two runs.

Adrian and Albion were deadlocked at 3-3 in game two in the bottom of the fifth when Josh Lancaster was lifted with bases loaded and one out. Matt Tuttle committed the cardinal sin by walking home two runs which proved to be the game-winning ones. He was replaced by Adrian Woods who closed the door for the rest of the frame. Lancaster (2-2) was saddled with the loss going 4.1 innings and allowing eight hits and four earned runs with four strikeouts. Woods went 1.2 innings and allowed one hit with a walk.

Meyers finished a strong day going 2-for-4 with a run scored at the plate in game two. Alex Cowart went hitless in game one before going 1-for-4 with a RBI and his seventh double in game two. Rickstad collected two hits in three at-bats with a RBI in the nightcap.

The two teams will conclude their four-game set tomorrow at Nicolay Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
