Wow! That would be the best word to describe what happened on Wednesday afternoon at Olivet College as the baseball team defeated the Comets by the scores of 17-4 and 21-7. In the process, many players had season-highs for the Bulldogs who pounded out 43 hits in the doubleheader.
Senior Bobby Rickstad had a monster game one with two homers, two singles, three runs and a season-high five RBI. He followed that up by going 3-for-4 as the designated hitter in game two with another homer, one run and three more RBI. Sophomore Alex Cowart collected an incredible 10 RBI on the day with four in game one and six in game two. He went a combined 5-for-8 at the plate and scored five runs. Freshman Brian Bilius played both games at third base and batted 3-for-5 with three runs scored in game one and then went 2-for-3 with three more runs and an RBI in the nightcap.
On the pitching side, sophomore southpaw Tim Parent (2-1) picked up the game one win in relief. He tossed 2.2 innings and allowed two hits and two earned runs with two walks. Senior Eric Zatkin was the most effective hurler throwing the final two innings and allowing no runs with a walk and three strikeouts. Freshman Ryan Domschott (2-2) threw four innings in relief in game two allowing two hits and one earned run with six strikeouts. Sophomore Josh Lancaster got the start in game two and was lifted after two innings with Adrian leading 7-1.
The big innings for Adrian were a five-run fourth in game one and a seven-run fourth in game two. The Olivet pitching staff yielded 30 earned runs in 14 innings which translates to a 19.29 ERA. Adrian as a team batted .506 (43-for-85) on the day.
