April 8, 2008

Stats

ADRIAN, Mich. - The baseball team led from start to finish on Tuesday afternoon against crosstown rival Siena Heights claiming a 9-3 nine-inning win, their third straight and five of their last six games. The Bulldogs (14-5) jumped out early scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to three doubles off the bats of Kris Powell, Bobby Rickstad and Brett Miskokomon. Adrian tacked on another run in the bottom of the second courtesy of a throwing error by shortstop Jamie Kruszka with two outs off the bat of Powell.

Adrian Woods (2-0) pitched the first two innings for Adrian and allowed no hits with one walk and one strikeout. Woods was the first of seven pitchers used by the Bulldogs in the contest. Ryan Domschott relieved Woods and pitched the third and fourth innings. Domschott gave up three hits as Siena Heights pushed across their first run in the fourth. He struck out three and did not allow a walk in his appearance.

Adrian roughed up starting hurler Mark Pauwels who fell to 0-3 in three appearances this season. He allowed six hits and four earned runs in four innings while walking three and striking out one. The Bulldogs increased their lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth as Steve Vanderheyden launched a one-out, solo homer over the left field wall, his second of the year. Vanderheyden was not done as he singled home two runs in the three-run bottom of the fifth which gave AC a commanding 8-1 lead.

Siena Heights scored single runs in the sixth and eighth innings but never really mounted a threat. AC tacked on their final run in the eighth as Nate Sarkissian collected his first collegiate RBI with a single in his first at-bat scoring Todd Meyers from third with one out. Adrian collected 10 hits and committed zero errors. Siena Heights collected seven hits and made two errors. The Saints left 10 runners on base while the Bulldogs stranded eight.

Rickstad, Miskokomon and Vanderheyden all had multi-hit games for AC who will host Hope College in a doubleheader at home on Thursday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
