The women's basketball team defeated Kalamazoo College, 69-56, on a snowy Saturday afternoon and in the process equaled their win total from 2007-08. The Bulldogs 10th win of 2008-09 came in just their 13th try. Kalamazoo (0-12, 0-6 MIAA) kept the contest close throughout the day after Adrian grabbed a 18-10 lead at the 11:10 mark of the first half.
The Bulldogs increased their lead to 11 points at the 6:03 mark on a layup by Megan Bouwens. Bouwens finished the game with a team-high 13 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes. Nyemade Cooper cut the lead down to three at 35-32 with 1:26 to play until halftime and gave the Hornets a little momentum heading into the locker room.
Adrian stretched their lead into double digits again in the second half at the 11:59 mark on another layup by Bouwens. The Bulldogs pulled away over the next couple of minutes and eventually lead by 20 points with under two minutes remaining on a pair of Bouwens' free throws.
The Adrian defense which has been a trademark this season limited the Hornets to 32.7 percent shooting for the game and just 22.2 percent shooting in the second half. Kalamazoo turned the ball over 22 times and were just 16-of-23 (69.6%) from the free throw line. AC went 26-of-55 (47.3%) from the field and 5-of-15 from the arc for the contest. Anita Stamps scored just six points well below her season average but did have a career-high eight steals. Ashley McClarren reached double figures with 11 points on 4-of-6 from the floor. Nine different players scored for the Bulldogs as their bench had a 24-4 edge.
