The Lady Bulldog women's basketball team sits alone in third place in the MIAA after a 57-50 win over visiting Alma College on Wednesday. Adrian (11-3, 4-2 MIAA) played another sound defensive game holding the Scots to 20 first-half points on 34.8 percent shooting from the floor. The 50 points allowed was the third lowest total of the season given up by the Bulldogs.
Adrian had the contest well in hand throughout by the Scots did make things interesting down the home stretch. Adrian led by as many as 17 points at the 14:29 mark of the second half but Alma used good defense of their own to claw back into the contest. Alma cut the lead under double digits at 44-35 with 8:21 left but Adrian made a couple of plays to regain a double-digit lead heading into the final six minutes. Alma went on a 7-0 run from 5:40 to 3:15 which cut the Adrian lead to 50-46. The big shot of the night came at the 2:16 mark as freshman Katie Ross made her third triple of the night breaking the Alma momentum. Ross finished with nine points and was a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc.
Alma would not get closer than five points for the remainder of the game. Jennifer Perrin hit a pair of free throws with 21 seconds left to seal the win. She finished the game with nine points and went 4-for-4 at the line in a team-high 35 minutes. Megan Bouwens led the Bulldogs with 12 points and was 6-for-10 from the floor. She added two boards and a block in 19 minutes. Anita Stamps scored nine points and connected on a pair of triples. She had six boards and three steals in 32 minutes.
Adrian picked up their seventh home win in nine tries this season. Adrian continued their recent success over Alma also winning both matchups a year ago.
