The women's basketball team slipped under .500 (6-7 MIAA, 13-8 overall) in league play after a 77-71 loss at Saint Mary's on Wednesday. The Belles won both games this season against the Bulldogs. The backcourt duo of juniors Anita Stamps and Jennifer Perrin kept Adrian in the game combined to score 39 of the team's 71 points. Stamps was 8-of-15 from the floor and 2-of-6 from the arc. Perrin was 7-of-17 from the floor and 4-of-4 at the foul line.
Adrian shot 37.1 percent as a team and were 7-of-19 from the arc. The Bulldogs were also 12-of-15 from the charity stripe. Adrian ripped down 16 offensive rebounds and 42 total boards. Saint Mary's shot 40.3 percent for the game and were 3-of-10 from the arc and 16-of-24 from the foul line. Saint Mary's grabbed 20 offensive boards and had 51 total caroms. Patsy Mahoney and Erin Newsom were a dangerous inside-outside combo with 22 points each. Newsom was 10-of-18 from the floor and had a double-double with 11 rebounds. Mahoney connected on two triples and was 8-of-17 from the floor.
Adrian led by as many as five points at the 10:43 mark of the second half and it looked like they might pull off a road upset. The Belles scored the next 11 points over the next four-plus minutes to turn a 59-54 deficit into a 65-59 lead with 5:59 to play. Adrian never regained the lead and Saint Mary's matched Adrian on the offensive end for the rest of the game.
