ANGOLA, Ind. -
The Trine Thunder proved to be of little resistance against Adrian College on Saturday as the Bulldogs completed a four-game sweep by the scores of 7-3 and 13-2. The bats have been lethal during the current 13-game win streak and Adrian is starting to look like a contender both in the MIAA and possibly at a regional level. Adrian pounded out 10 hits in game one and added 14 hits in game two.
Adrian's 7-3 game one win saw Josh Lancaster pick up his third win of the season going six innings. Lancaster allowed five hits of scoreless ball with one walk and one strikeout before handing the ball to Nick Vandike in the seventh. VanDike's struggles this season continued as he gave up three earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts. Todd Meyers went 2-for-3 with his 12th double in game one. Alex Cowart had a pair of hits and stole his 12th base. Nate Sarkissian also had a pair of hits with an RBI and run scored.
Adrian scored multiple runs in five of seven innings in game two including five runs in the sixth in game two's 13-2 win. Don Schmelter improved to 2-2 on the year in the nightcap. Adam Shiltz allowed six earned runs for Trine in 3.1 innings and took the loss (1-2). Brian Bilius went 4-for-5 with two runs and three RBI's. Cowart hit his first home run of the year and also had his third triple accounting for three RBI's. Sarkissian was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI's with his seventh double. Jake Cappelletty slugged his fifth home run and drew three walks with two runs scored. Joe Dubina collected three hits including his fourth double with three RBI's.
Adrian is now 19-7 overall and maintains first place in the MIAA at 12-1. The damage could have been much worse as Adrian left 19 runners on base in the two games.
