The baseball team continued to keep pace in the MIAA with a sweep of Hope at Boeve Stadium on Thursday. Ryan Domschot and Alex Webster each allowed just one run in a pair of wins. Adrian cruised to an 11-1 game one win as Hope left the door open for a big second inning by committing a few costly errors. AC scored three runs in the top of the second and only allowed one third inning run.
Adrian led 6-1 after five innings and then put the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Adrian has now had six straight games with at least 10 hits after slugging 15 in game one and 12 in game two.
Adrian won 7-1 in the nightcap after once again scoring late with three runs in the seventh as Todd Meyers hit a three-run shot to center for his second home run of the season. Webster threw a complete-game, three-hitter and allowed one walk with two strikeouts improving to 5-1 this year.
Domschot improved to 8-0 with a 1.63 ERA on the year after tossing six innings in game one. He gave up one earned run and walked one with six strikeouts. Nick Vandike threw in the seventh and walked two with two strikeouts.
Jake Cappelletty had a big day going 5-for-6 with two sacrifice bunts. He was 3-for-3 in game one with two runs, a walk and an RBI. Steve Vanderheyden went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI in game one. Brian Bilius and Nate Sarkissian each drove in two runs in game one.
Meyers went 4-for-4 with a run and a season-high four RBI in the nightcap. Andrew Anderson went 2-for-2 with two runs scored. AC left 21 runners on base in the two games. Alex Cowart had three doubles on the day and scored four runs. Adrian has won 15 straight and is now 21-7 overall and 15-1 in the MIAA.
