ADRIAN, Mich. -
The Adrian College baseball team swept a pair from Albion on Friday afternoon at Nicolay Field and improved to 17-2 at home this season. The big news was a couple of records that were either tied or broken during the twinbill. Senior Todd Meyers collected one hit in game one and then went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and home run in game two to set the Adrian College career record for hits (192). The triple in the fourth inning was the record breaking hit.
Sophomore Ryan Domschot picked up his ninth win of the season in game one and tied the single-season record for wins in the process. Domschot (9-1) threw his second shutout of the year in game one and allowed five hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts. The Bulldogs were held scoreless after a two-run first inning against Albion starter Ryan Gunderson. Gunderson went six innings and allowed seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Adrian's runs in the first came off a two-run single by Nate Sarkissian. Sarkissian's no-out smack up the middle scored Meyers and Andrew Anderson. Alex Cowart and Sarkissian each had two hits in the opener.
Meyers had three runs scored and two RBI in the nightcap and missed the cycle by one single. Anderson swung a hot bat with three RBI and was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Adrian had 13 hits in game two as Sarkissian added two more hits and collected an RBI. Adrian had a six-run second inning which gave them a 7-0 lead after two innings.
Alex Webster got the win (7-1) going five innings and allowing four hits and no earned runs. Dan Welch and Nick Vandike threw a scoreless inning in the sixth and seventh respectively. Adrian (26-8, 20-2 MIAA) has put themselves in a great position now to win the MIAA and advance to the NCAA regional which they will host May 13-17.
